Feeling Electric

Exclusive photos from the official music video shoot

Story by Parade of Lights 06 de July de 2015

//// location

We’ve always been fans of the desert. We’d recently done a photo shoot in Death Valley (with director Charles Bergquist) that turned out exactly how we’d hoped, and inspired the design/aesthetic of the album packaging. When it came time to do this video, we collectively decided that it made the most sense to head back to Death Valley. We felt that having all of the visual elements around this record woven together would provide the listener with an immersive experience; with Death Valley as the backdrop.

//// PROJECTIONS

As a band, we’ve always straddled the fence between organic and electronic music. Our songs tend to sound more electronic at their inception, but are treated in an organic way as the process progresses. So, naturally, when director Charles Bergquist presented the idea of using computers and projectors out in nature, we were very interested. We saw many parallels between his idea and our creative process. Charles created loops of shapes and evolving patterns that were subsequently projected onto us during the shoot. It would’ve been easy for him to drop those patterns into Premiere or After Effects and get results, but there was something truly unique and special about capturing the way the projections behaved out in the elements in real time.

//// DIRECTOR

We have been fans of Charles Bergquist for quite some time. The first opportunity we had to work with him was during the previously mentioned photo shoot that inspired this video. We stumbled across his work with Tycho, Matthew Dear, various look books and Ghostly International. We were immediately drawn to his ability to manipulate nature to create otherwordly environments through his use of color, overlays, and blending. After working with him closely on our photo shoot, we were convinced he was the perfect director for this video.
